UK Braces for Heavy Rainfall Amid Heatwave

Weather forecasts from the Met Office indicate that multiple regions in the UK are expected to experience heavy rainfall tomorrow. This comes as temperatures remain high, surpassing the official heatwave threshold in certain areas, especially in southern parts. The mercury is forecasted to hit 33C today, followed by 29C on both tomorrow and Saturday in the south. Meanwhile, northern areas are anticipated to reach maximum temperatures of 29C, 24C, and 24C over the same three-day period, according to the Met Office.

Despite the ongoing heatwave conditions, the Met Office has issued several warnings for thunderstorms in recent days. The latest weather maps from the national weather service now show that more rain is on the horizon for tomorrow.

The weather maps highlight heavy rain sweeping across most of Scotland around midday, with a band of rain stretching from the southwest of England to Lincolnshire. This band of rain is projected to progress southeastward throughout the day, reaching London by 5 pm.

Overall, the Met Office maps suggest that around 51 counties across England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are likely to experience rainfall, while Wales is expected to remain predominantly dry.

In the most recent weather update, the Met Office stated that temperatures will gradually decrease and become cooler as the hot weather subsides on Friday. Forecasters mentioned that many regions will observe a noticeable drop in temperatures from the recent highs, although temperatures will still be above average for most places. They anticipate that the peaks of 28C will mainly be confined to the far southeast.

Chief Forecaster Chris Bulmer from the Met Office remarked, “We are now witnessing the hot weather spell coming to an end. While some parts of the southeast may still reach highs of 32C on Thursday, many areas will start to experience fresher conditions from Friday onwards as a weak cold front moves across the UK. As the heat subsides, the weather is expected to become more changeable, with the possibility of showers and thunderstorms. By the weekend, temperatures are forecasted to align more closely with seasonal averages, accompanied by rainfall for many regions through the weekend and into the early part of next week.”
