“Two-Lorry Collision on M1 Causes Major Delays”

Emergency services responded to a significant collision involving two lorries on the M1 just after 10 pm on Tuesday, leading to road closures and overturned vehicles. The incident occurred between J16 Northampton and J18 Crick, causing all lanes to be blocked. Due to the complexity of the recovery work, the closure is expected to last throughout the morning, resulting in delays and congested traffic in the area.

National Highways provided updates indicating that the northbound lanes between J16 and J18 are still blocked, while lanes three and four on the southbound carriageway are also affected. Delays of up to 76 minutes are reported on the approach, with traffic management efforts in place to alleviate congestion.

The closure is necessary for Northants Police investigations into the collision, and National Highways anticipates the M1 remaining shut for several more hours. Motorists are advised to follow diversion routes and expect delays of around 22 minutes with three miles of congestion. Traffic officers and contractors are actively managing the situation on-site.

The ongoing closure is causing queues to build up, with the expectation that the M1 will remain closed for the morning to facilitate investigation and recovery operations. National Highways emphasized the importance of allowing extra travel time and considering alternative routes due to the prolonged closure. Traffic within the closure area is being released gradually, and emergency services continue to monitor the situation.

Northamptonshire Police are conducting an investigation at the scene, and National Highways is working to keep the public informed about the closure status. The collision involving two lorries has resulted in continued road closures and traffic disruptions, with updates being provided to assist motorists in navigating the affected area.
