The map revived Trump’s past remarks about potentially making Canada the 51st U.S. state and his interest in acquiring Greenland, a self-governing territory of Denmark. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen criticized the move as inappropriate and alarming, emphasizing the need to restrain such maximalist visions.
Iceland’s Foreign Secretary, Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir, expressed discontent by summoning U.S. Ambassador Billy Long for a meeting, denouncing the post as unacceptable. The Arctic has been tense since Trump’s earlier statements about U.S. control over Greenland, causing unease in the region.
