“Trump: No Future Talks with Iran as Strait of Hormuz Dispute Continues”

President Donald Trump stated that the United States currently has no planned discussions with Iran and no future talks scheduled. This announcement comes as Iran’s chief negotiator declared that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the U.S. fulfills the requirements outlined in an interim agreement signed in June.

The memorandum of understanding signed in June mandated a cessation of all military activities and set a 60-day deadline for a permanent resolution to the conflict and the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program. However, this deadline expired on Monday.

Diverging accounts emerged on Tuesday, with Trump claiming on Truth Social that the strait is operational, asserting that all Iranian mines in the area have been cleared. Nevertheless, commercial traffic in the strait has significantly decreased compared to pre-war levels after the U.S. and Israel initiated strikes on Iran on February 28.

In a separate communication, Trump shared an image depicting the Strait of Hormuz as “New U.S. Territory.” The U.S. reinstated a naval blockade in July, restricting maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports.

Iran’s parliamentary Speaker and former U.S. negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, reiterated Iran’s stance on maintaining control of shipping traffic until the U.S. fulfills its obligations under the agreement, including lifting the blockade and sanctions.

A recent incident involved a ship being struck in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the U.K. Maritime Trade Operations center. This event underscores the challenges of navigating the strait amid increased tensions and negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding the management of shipping in the area.

With talks between the U.S. and Iran at a standstill, Iran is engaging in separate discussions with Oman on a plan to oversee ships passing through the strait. The situation remains fluid as global oil and gas supplies rely heavily on the smooth operation of the strait for transportation.

President Trump has refused Iran’s demands and has imposed economic pressure through sanctions and blockades, while insisting that Iran should pay reparations for the conflict. The situation remains complex as both sides navigate the delicate negotiations amidst ongoing tensions.
