Nick Mendenhall’s spontaneous trip to Six Flags with his son took a tragic turn when a 42-year-old man fell to his death on the Goliath roller-coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia. The man was ejected from his seat and struck other riders before landing below the ride. As a result, Six Flags has closed Goliath and nine similar roller-coasters at various North American parks for investigation into the incident.
Mendenhall, who had recently ridden the Goliath with his son, witnessed the fatal fall and shared his experience with guest host Dave Seglins on “As It Happens.” Despite the traumatic event, Mendenhall and his son are coping well. His son, who was not present at the scene, remains unaffected.
The father-son duo were regular visitors to the park, having ridden the Goliath multiple times. Mendenhall surprised his son with the trip after initially planning to work. While recounting the incident, Mendenhall described how he saw the man come out of his seat and eventually fall off the roller-coaster.
In the aftermath, Mendenhall’s focus remains on the well-being of the park employees and refraining from baseless speculation about the incident. He hopes for a thorough investigation to determine the cause and emphasizes the importance of supporting the park staff during this challenging time.
