An explosion in a popular Italian tourist destination has resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries due to a building collapse. The incident occurred in Porto Sant ‘Elpidio, where a two-story building was destroyed by a powerful blast suspected to be caused by a gas leak early on Saturday morning.
Rescuers recovered the deceased man from the debris, while two families inside the building at the time of the explosion required immediate assistance. Among those affected were a child and the victim’s elderly parents, who received on-site medical attention before being taken to a hospital. Additionally, a woman caught in the blast was airlifted to a nearby hospital in Torrette di Ancona.
Efforts are ongoing to locate another woman believed to be trapped under the rubble. Firefighters are utilizing drones, dogs, and excavators in a frantic search operation. The explosion not only demolished the building but also shattered windows in surrounding shops and structures.
