Tragic A1 Collision Claims Two Lives

A tragic incident occurred on the A1 in Northumberland resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving three others with severe injuries. The Northumbria Police received a report of a two-vehicle collision at the junction for Wandylaw, just north of Alnwick, shortly before 4 am on Saturday.

According to reports, a silver Nissan Juke traveling southbound collided with a blue Vauxhall Corsa traveling in the opposite direction for reasons yet to be determined. Emergency services responded to the scene where the drivers of both vehicles, a woman in her 50s from the Juke and a man in his 40s from the Corsa, were declared deceased.

Two passengers from the Juke, a woman in her 20s and a school-aged boy, along with a female passenger in her 20s from the Corsa, sustained serious injuries and are currently hospitalized. The families of all individuals involved have been notified and are receiving support from specialized officers.

Following the incident, a section of the A1 in both directions between Ellingham and Purdy Lodge was temporarily closed for approximately ten hours but has since reopened as reported by Chronicle Live. The Roads Policing Unit of the Northumbria Police is now seeking witnesses to provide any information, especially those possessing CCTV or dashcam footage leading up to the collision.

Sergeant Alex Partington of the Northumbria Police expressed condolences to the affected families and assured continued support during this difficult time. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision is underway, with appeals for motorists and witnesses in the area at the time to come forward.

Anyone with relevant information or footage is urged to contact Northumbria Police through social media, live chat, online report forms on the force’s website, or by calling 101, quoting reference NP-20260530-0159.
