“Stalker of James Bond Producer Given Indefinite Hospital Order”

A man who stalked Barbara Broccoli, the producer of James Bond movies, for ten years has been given an indefinite hospital order after she stated that he compelled her to sell her family residence.

Daniel Wilson, 37, unlawfully entered Ms. Broccoli’s home in 2016, causing her such distress that she decided to sell the property where she had resided for two decades, as revealed in Southwark Crown Court.

Subsequently, Wilson violated a restraining order by leaving menacing Valentine’s Day voicemails, implying thoughts of violence, and by sharing Ms. Broccoli’s contact information along with offensive messages online. Additionally, he defied the order by posting inappropriate content online, leading to his sentencing by Judge Christopher Hehir.

Wilson pleaded guilty to stalking charges causing serious distress from April 1, 2022, to February 14, 2025, and two counts of breaching the restraining order against Ms. Broccoli, initially imposed in 2017. He also admitted to charges of affray and criminal damage at Inner London Crown Court for vandalizing car and hospital windows with a hammer in December 2023.

The court has imposed an indefinite Section 37 hospital order with a Section 41 restriction to be served concurrently for each offense. Furthermore, a deprivation order was issued for the hammer used in the 2023 incident.

Wilson’s fixation with Ms. Broccoli stemmed from a past acquaintance during their time at the same sixth form college, which ended in 2009. His obsession led to him breaking into her London residence in 2016, causing significant damage. Despite her absence during the break-in, Ms. Broccoli expressed constant fear for her safety.

During the court proceedings, Wilson continued to exhibit delusional behavior towards Ms. Broccoli, emphasizing a belief that she owed him money for a sculpture of her father, Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, the original James Bond producer. The prosecutor highlighted Wilson’s persistent and distressing campaign of harassment through various forms of communication, ranging from strange to threatening messages.

Wilson’s psychiatric condition, debated by expert witnesses, is noted to be exacerbated by substance abuse, including crystal meth and cannabis. Dr. Eleanor Hind testified that Wilson poses risks of psychological distress and physical violence due to his stalking behavior and history of violent incidents.

The court also mentioned Ms. Broccoli’s pivotal role in the James Bond franchise and her recent decision to pass on the franchise’s reins to Amazon MGM Studios along with her half-brother, Michael G Wilson. Together, they have produced several successful Bond films, garnering accolades and recognition in the film industry.

In conclusion, Wilson’s relentless stalking behavior and criminal activities have resulted in legal consequences, emphasizing the seriousness of his actions and the impact on his victims.
