Residents of a UK village were startled by a second earthquake in less than a month, describing the event as a significant thud resembling a distant explosion. The 2.2 magnitude tremor struck Silverdale, Lancashire, at 9:35 pm on Saturday night, as confirmed by the British Geological Survey (BGS).
Reports from locals in Grange-over-Sands and Bolton-le-Sands mentioned feeling a strong thud and a burst of noise, akin to a distant explosion. This recent event follows a 2.3-magnitude earthquake on May 13 at the same location, with a smaller 0.4-magnitude tremor occurring on April 12.
Since the end of 2025, several earthquakes have affected the region, including two in December and additional ones in February and March this year, according to Lancashire Live. Social media buzzed with comments from locals, with one individual questioning, “Another earthquake just happened?”
In a Facebook post, the BGS shared preliminary details of the earthquake, noting that it was felt across the Morecambe Bay area, with witnesses describing a big thud, similar to a distant explosion, and a burst of noise. Online comments from residents like James Black and Neil Wood highlighted the intensity of the event, with others like Jane Caldwell and Victoria Kaye Holt also sharing their experiences of feeling the tremor.
The earthquake was felt in various neighboring areas, with residents of Arnside and Grange reporting the event. Overall, the community expressed surprise at the frequency of seismic activity in the region, with one individual humorously suggesting, “We must be the earthquake center of the UK!”
