A British man passed away after falling seriously ill at an airport in Turkey just before his return flight. David Kelly, a resident of Barrhead, Renfrewshire, Scotland, was swiftly taken to intensive care, put into a medically induced coma, and sustained on life support while battling for his life far from home.
His wife, Dawn, stood by him in a Turkish hospital for four weeks until he was eventually transported back on 8 June via a specialized flying intensive care unit. Upon arrival at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, David was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit but sadly passed away peacefully on 18 June, surrounded by his loved ones.
The heartbreaking news was shared by his family through the Facebook page of his business, Barrhead Joinery. They expressed their gratitude for the support and announced the closure of the business in honor of David. A fundraiser recounted the holiday turning into a nightmare as David’s health rapidly declined, leading to his passing despite intensive care efforts.
Described as a cherished husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, David was remembered for his selflessness and dedication to helping others. The community also extended their condolences, with tributes pouring in for his professionalism and kindness. Funds raised will assist Dawn and the family with funeral costs and contribute to Kidney Research UK and the Royal Alexandra Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
