“Royal Dilemma: Harry and Meghan’s Title Controversy”

Six years ago, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised the world with their decision to step back from their royal roles. This move, announced in January 2020, involved the couple relocating to the United States to pursue financial independence. Despite this significant change, they retain their titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which were granted to them by the late Queen during their 2018 wedding.

Questions have arisen regarding why their royal titles have not been revoked, especially since they no longer fulfill any royal duties under King Charles. Following their departure from official royal duties, Harry and Meghan have been vocal about their experiences within the Royal Family, both in interviews with Oprah Winfrey and through various media platforms.

In a recent interview with Anderson Cooper, Harry was asked why they had not given up their titles, considering their criticisms of the institution. Harry responded succinctly, questioning the impact of relinquishing their titles. Additionally, Harry’s entitlement to armed police protection in the UK was lost after their decision to step back from royal duties.

As they prepare to return to the UK for an event related to the 2027 Invictus Games, Harry had to request police protection, which has reportedly been denied. Despite the ongoing security concerns, their visit to the UK is imminent.
