Blockbuster romance writer Carley Fortune has revealed that her sixth book, “Only in Summer,” is set to launch on May 18, 2027. This latest novel by Fortune returns readers to the cherished setting of Barry’s Bay, Ont., which was featured in her earlier works, “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” and is also her hometown.
In a recent newsletter announcement, Fortune shared her excitement about owning a cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-held dream since her family home by the lake was sold. The main character in “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, known as Ellie, shares a similar aspiration. Ellie, the cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s previous Barry’s Bay tales, has always dreamt of buying property in the area. However, her plans take an unexpected turn when a neighboring residence is demolished to make way for a grand mansion.
While specific details about the plot remain undisclosed, it’s likely that a captivating romance will unfold within the picturesque lakeside backdrop. Fortune, a renowned writer and journalist based in Toronto, has a notable portfolio having worked with esteemed publications such as Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her earlier works include “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”
“Meet Me at the Lake” was a finalist in the 2024 edition of Canada Reads, a literary event, and was supported by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel to feature on the show. “Every Summer After” was adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” while Netflix Canada is currently working on a 10-episode adaptation of “This Summer Will Be Different.”
The eagerly anticipated release of “Only in Summer” is set to captivate readers with its enchanting narrative and familiar Barry’s Bay charm.
