Garson Hunter spent three weeks in the summer searching for his missing Spanish greyhound, La Gracia, in the Qu’Appelle Valley near Regina. Despite providing food and camping out to lure her back, La Gracia, who had a challenging past in Spain as a former racing greyhound, remained elusive.
La Gracia, rescued by Hunter a year earlier and battling health issues, went missing from a veterinary clinic in Lumsden. Efforts to locate her were complicated by her fear and reluctance to approach humans. After several unsuccessful attempts, a Quebec-based organization specializing in finding lost dogs successfully trapped La Gracia with a specially designed crate.
Following her rescue, La Gracia required intensive veterinary care but has since recovered and returned home. Hunter expressed relief and gratitude for her safe return, despite the substantial financial costs incurred during the search and rescue operation. He intends to raise concerns with the veterinary clinic and advocate for improved industry protocols for capturing lost animals.
