“Prince William Plans Overhaul of Royal Property Practices”

Prince William is planning to implement significant changes in the management of the Royal Family’s extensive property holdings once he ascends to the throne. The Prince of Wales, aged 43, is considering ending long-standing royal property practices such as subletting residences and may disallow non-participating members from residing rent-free in palaces. These proposed measures are part of a comprehensive review of the family’s housing arrangements, reminiscent of reforms introduced by King Charles III during his reign.

A recent report highlighted that Prince William’s uncle, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, had been subletting three cottages on his former Windsor property while paying minimal rent. The Prince is prioritizing these changes and is keen on scrutinizing the inner workings of the royal operations to ensure its relevance in contemporary times.

Of particular concern to Prince William is the public perception of non-working family members enjoying favorable living conditions in royal properties. This focus on transparency and accountability follows a report by the National Audit Office, which revealed that Prince Andrew had been generating income from rental cottages while residing at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, paying nominal rent for his own property.

The report disclosed that the King pays rent for accommodations for his nieces, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, who are not active members of the royal workforce. These arrangements involve properties at St James’s Palace and Kensington Palace, funded through the King’s personal funds. The Royal Household, supported by public funds, provides residences to 11 working royal family members at no charge in exchange for their official duties.

In response to the report, a Palace spokesperson expressed gratitude, emphasizing the commitment to transparency in managing royal properties. The spokesperson clarified that property arrangements are tailored based on various factors, ensuring suitable occupancy based on location, tenants, and purpose.
