Ontario is set to dispatch a team of 28 healthcare professionals to Alberta to provide assistance to soldiers who sustained severe injuries in a tragic weekend fire at a military base in the Prairie province, announced Premier Doug Ford.
The healthcare workers being sent include skilled surgeons and nurses specializing in burn care, along with necessary equipment to support their efforts, Ford mentioned.
Expressing solidarity, Ford stated, “Amid Alberta hospitals grappling with the aftermath of the tragic fire at CFB Wainwright last week, Ontario’s courageous healthcare team is stepping in to lend a helping hand.”
“In times of crisis, Canadians unite and support one another. This exemplifies our collective spirit,” Ford added.
The incident at CFB Wainwright resulted in the loss of four soldiers’ lives and left 39 others injured.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith disclosed on Wednesday that 12 patients have been discharged following the incident. Among the 27 individuals still hospitalized, 13 are currently classified as being in critical condition.
