Two-time Olympic judo medalist Sarah-Leonie Cysique from France was admitted to the hospital after landing on her head during a semifinal match at the world championships on Tuesday. The incident occurred early in her bout in the 57-kilogram category against Akari Omori from Japan.
Cysique’s neck was supported with a brace before she was transported on a stretcher, as reported by the French sports publication L’Equipe. The severity of her injury was not immediately known. According to L’Equipe, Omori executed a legal hip throw on Cysique, leading to her head impact in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
Cysique, who clinched bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics and silver at the 2021 Tokyo Games in the 57-kilogram category, also secured mixed team gold medals at both Olympics.
