Mystery Surrounds Dead Canada Geese Discovery

Manitoba Conservation is currently conducting an investigation following the discovery of a cluster of deceased Canada geese in a ditch just north of Garson, Manitoba. The incident was brought to light by a grader operator named Scott Peluk, who encountered the distressing sight while working near Mile 33 Road. Peluk estimated there were around 15 to 20 carcasses of geese, all intact without any signs of being gutted for meat.

Expressing his dismay, Peluk mentioned that some of the geese had noticeable blood spots on them. Although he did not approach the carcasses closely, he shared his observations and concerns about the situation. Peluk speculated that the geese might have exceeded the legal hunting limit, prompting someone to dispose of them to avoid penalties.

According to Manitoba’s 2026 hunting guide, hunters in the province are permitted to harvest up to eight Canada geese per day within designated game bird hunting zones and can possess a maximum of 24 geese. Peluk, a lifelong resident of rural areas, condemned the wastage of meat and emphasized the importance of utilizing all parts of the game hunted.

In an effort to raise awareness and potentially identify those responsible, Peluk took a photograph of the geese carcasses and shared it on social media. He expressed hope that the individuals involved would be apprehended or would reconsider their actions to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Manitoba Conservation has since removed the carcasses, with the organization confirming its awareness of the situation and ongoing investigation in response to inquiries from CBC News.
