A man has been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for his involvement in encouraging the rape of a baby and an eight-year-old child. Mark Craig, 56, exchanged explicit messages with an individual he believed could provide access to young girls, including a baby, detailing his desires to sexually abuse children.
Unbeknownst to Craig, the person he was communicating with was an undercover police officer conducting an investigation. Following a thorough operation by officers from the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU), Craig was arrested in March. Subsequently, he faced charges for arranging/facilitating a child sex offense, producing indecent images of a child, and distributing indecent images of a child, to which he pleaded guilty in court.
Hailing from the Westerhope area in Newcastle, Craig received his sentencing at Newcastle Crown Court after admitting to all charges. Detective Inspector Hull of NEROCU expressed relief at the outcome, emphasizing the dedicated efforts of law enforcement in identifying and apprehending dangerous individuals like Craig who pose significant threats to children.
