Police are currently in pursuit of a man who disappeared at a lake yesterday, with police divers and helicopters reportedly assisting in the search. The incident occurred on Sunday evening at Llyn Geirionydd, a 45-acre lake situated on the lower slopes of the Carneddau mountains in Snowdonia, Wales.
Emergency services were summoned to the lake after an alert was raised around 7.10 pm. Despite extensive search efforts carried out overnight, the man remains unaccounted for, and his family has been informed of the situation. Authorities have stated that the search operations will persist at the lake, with an escalated emergency service presence to bolster the ongoing search mission.
Local witnesses observed a helicopter circling the lake at approximately 8 pm, noting a substantial emergency response and the presence of police divers at the scene. Just eleven days ago, the body of a 21-year-old man was retrieved from the same lake. Llyn Geirionydd attracts water sports enthusiasts, including kayakers, and is the sole lake within Eryri National Park where speedboats are permitted, as per North Wales Live reports.
North Wales Police has advised the public to avoid the lake area while search operations continue. A spokesperson emphasized, “Immediate family members have been notified and are receiving support. We urge the public to steer clear of the area today to facilitate the uninterrupted work of emergency services. Individuals present at the lake yesterday evening who have not yet spoken to the police are encouraged to come forward.”
