A tragic incident occurred on L’Arrabassada Beach in Tarragona, Spain, where a man lost his life after being accidentally struck by a cleaning vehicle while he was asleep on the sand. The victim, who was sleeping under a blanket, was hit early in the morning and was promptly attended to by paramedics before being transported to the hospital. Despite initially being conscious, he succumbed to his injuries the following day at Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona.
Authorities launched a police investigation into the incident, with the driver of the cleaning vehicle stating that he had not seen the man due to his obscured visibility. The driver passed a breathalyzer test at the scene. The nationality of the victim has not been disclosed.
L’Arrabassada Beach, known for its long stretch of fine, golden sand, is situated north of Tarragona’s seafront, approximately a mile and a half from the city marina. This unfortunate event is reminiscent of a similar tragedy in Gran Canaria in December 2024, where a German tourist lost her life after being run over by a delivery vehicle while sunbathing at Playa del Ingles resort. The driver of the vehicle, unaware of the incident, was later apprehended and claimed ignorance of hitting someone.
The incident took place near the popular Maspalomas Dunes, close to a beach kiosk where the vehicle was delivering goods. The driver, a local with a decade of experience working on the beach, professed familiarity with the area.
