“Ireland and Netherlands Join Eurovision Boycott”

Ireland has announced its decision to boycott the Eurovision Song Contest for a second consecutive year due to Israel’s involvement, according to the country’s national broadcaster, RTE. The broadcaster stated that Ireland will not be participating in the 2027 competition in Bulgaria and will also not air the show because of the “tragic and continuous loss of lives in Gaza.”

This move by Ireland follows similar actions taken by five other countries, including the Netherlands, Iceland, Slovenia, and Spain, who also chose to skip the Eurovision event this year in protest against Israel’s participation in the music contest.

In a similar vein, Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS declared its boycott for the upcoming year, labeling Eurovision as a “platform for division.” AVROTROS explained that they will not be partaking in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, citing the event’s lack of neutrality with a participating country embroiled in a significant military conflict.

The 2027 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held in May in Bulgaria’s Black Sea resort of Burgas.
