A grandmother on her way to celebrate her daughter’s birthday tragically passed away after a severe fall that resulted in a fatal injury to her neck while disembarking from an airplane.
Maria da Gloria Pereira da Silva Favaro, aged 72, sustained critical injuries when she fell from the aircraft stairs as she was exiting at Congonhas Airport in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Following the incident on Friday, she was immediately taken to the hospital but sadly succumbed to a “skull bleed” two days later, as confirmed by local reports.
The distressing event was witnessed by Brazilian social media influencer Julio Mamute, who recounted being one of the first individuals to reach Maria. Overwhelmed with emotion, he shared, “I witnessed a person falling right in front of me and becoming motionless.”
“Approaching her, I noticed she was struggling to breathe. She landed on her neck during the final steps of the fall,” he added.
Reflecting on the incident, the influencer expressed ongoing shock and requested prayers for Maria’s family, emphasizing the importance of caution while using such stairs to prevent avoidable tragedies.
Maria had just arrived on Latam flight LA3785 from Ribeirao Preto, Sao Paulo, when the fatal accident occurred. Latam Airlines Brasil confirmed her passing, stating, “A passenger fell while descending the stairs from flight LA 3785 (Ribeirao Preto to Congonhas) on Friday. She was promptly assisted and transported to a local hospital for treatment, with a company representative remaining until her family arrived.”
The airline expressed deep regret over the passenger’s demise, extending condolences to her family and assuring adherence to established safety protocols to ensure safe travel for all passengers.
Following Maria’s passing, heartfelt tributes poured in, with dermatologist Raquel Favaro honoring her mother’s memory on social media, expressing profound gratitude and love for her selfless care and devotion.
Maria is survived by her husband, two children, and four grandchildren, with her funeral held in her hometown of Ituverava.
