“Gordie Howe Bridge Draws Surging Traffic: StatCan Data”

Statistics Canada has reported that a significant number of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada in the initial days following its opening. The highly anticipated bridge, linking Windsor and Detroit, commenced operations on July 27, despite facing delays. According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were 18,900 return trips by Canadian residents from the U.S. through the Gordie Howe bridge during its first five days of service. In the same timeframe, 18,100 U.S. residents traveled across the bridge into Canada.

Comparatively, other nearby border crossings, namely the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, recorded a combined total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadian and U.S. residents during the same period. Additionally, StatCan highlighted that 4,100 commercial trucks entered Canada via the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
