Households in the UK relying on Freeview for their TV content are advised to check their equipment and consider performing a quick retune. This recommendation comes after several channel adjustments have been confirmed, including renaming some services and relocating others in the TV guide. While not a major overhaul, conducting a swift reboot will ensure that TVs are fully updated.
Freeview has officially announced these changes, stating, “On May 20, 2026, some broadcasters will be modifying their channels.
“To keep your channels and TV Guide current, you will need to retune your TV.”
So, what exactly is changing, what’s new, and what’s being relocated?
Firstly, two channels are undergoing name changes. Hobbycraft TV on channel 97 has been rebranded as Shop Unlimited, and Great! Romance Mix on channel 61 is now Great! TV +1.
There are also adjustments to channel placements. Great! Movies is shifting from channel 61 to channel 62, with Great! TV +1 taking the former’s place on channel 61.
Freeview further stated, “Channels on Freeview are continuously evolving as individual providers make decisions to relocate, add, or remove channels.
“Freeview remains committed to offering audiences a diverse and engaging content selection.”
If you do not see the updates on your TV, manual retuning of your device may be necessary.
Here are the steps to retune your TV:
• Press the menu button on your TV or set-top box remote
• Select “set-up”, “installation”, “update” or a similar option
• If prompted for a password, try “1234” or “0000”
• Choose “first-time installation”, “factory reset”, “full retune” or “default settings”
• Press “OK” to confirm deletion of existing channels if asked
• The retuning process should start automatically
• Save any channels found during the scan if prompted
