“Federal Defence Minister Hails Alberta’s Military Investments”

Federal Defence Minister David McGuinty highlights the significant military investments in Alberta, emphasizing the province’s crucial role in strengthening Canada. The reminder coincides with the upcoming Confederation vote on October 19.

McGuinty, joined by Alberta Premier Danielle Smith at Canadian Forces Base Edmonton, praises Alberta for its visionary thinking and large-scale development contributions to the nation. He underscores the enduring national unity fostered by Canadians’ mutual support, especially during times of conflict.

Reiterating Alberta’s substantial ongoing funding of $8 billion, which includes $550 million for establishing the western operating base for the Air Force’s CC-330 Husky fleet, McGuinty underscores the province’s prominent position in air defense. Smith acknowledges the funding’s strategic importance, showcasing the collaborative efforts between Canada and Ottawa.

The referendum ballot features ten questions, including whether Alberta should remain part of Canada or proceed with a second binding referendum on independence.
