A man and his daughter have been sentenced to prison for throwing the daughter’s lover from a first-floor window, beating him, and stabbing him. John McGinley, aged 58, and Stacey McGinley, aged 39, initiated the violent episode against Duncan Craig in response to an alleged debt owed by Mr. Craig to his on-off partner. The brutal incident occurred in a flat located in the east end of Glasgow, where Mr. Craig was initially pushed from a first-floor window, then stripped, assaulted, strangled, and stabbed.
The attack was interrupted when another woman present in the flat managed to discreetly seek help for Mr. Craig, leading to his rescue by authorities. Following the incident, armed officers were dispatched to the scene, arresting both individuals who had a known history of violent behavior.
During their trial at the High Court in Glasgow, the McGinleys confessed to the charges brought against them. John McGinley was handed a sentence of seven-and-a-half years, while his daughter was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison. The presiding judge, Lord Mulholland, admonished the pair for their actions, stating that they could have faced a murder charge and expressing disbelief at the inhumane treatment inflicted upon Mr. Craig.
The violent episode transpired on February 15, 2025, when Mr. Craig and another woman were present at the McGinley residence. Stacey, displeased with Mr. Craig over an alleged debt exceeding £600, began physically assaulting him around 3 am, prompting him to make an escape attempt by climbing onto the first-floor window sill. Subsequently, John McGinley forcefully pushed him, causing Mr. Craig to fall into a neighboring garden.
The sequence of brutal assaults continued for hours, with Mr. Craig enduring various forms of physical harm inflicted by both John and Stacey McGinley. These included severe beatings, stripping of clothing, strangulation, and stabbing. The victim was left grievously injured, covered in blood, with extensive bruising, and in need of medical attention.
Following a distress message sent by the other woman in the flat, law enforcement intervened, leading to the arrest of the McGinleys and the rescue of Mr. Craig. His injuries, which included a hip fracture, dislocated shoulder, missing teeth, and numerous marks of violence, required a prolonged hospital stay and further rehabilitation.
John McGinley pleaded guilty to attempted murder, while his daughter admitted to severe assault resulting in permanent disfigurement and endangerment to life, in addition to charges of abduction and attempted extortion. Both individuals have been prohibited from contacting or approaching the victim for life.
In their defense, legal representatives for the McGinleys provided explanations for their actions, with John McGinley’s lawyer emphasizing his reaction in response to the relationship dynamics between Stacey and the victim, while Stacey’s lawyer expressed her remorse and acceptance of responsibility for the offenses committed.
