Multiple explosions shook Dubai early today, with witnesses reporting hearing loud ‘booms’ and observing significant smoke. The incidents began around 2:40 am local time on August 5, with a building catching fire in the Jebel Ali industrial area, located approximately 25 miles southwest of Dubai city center.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the explosions and fire. Emergency services are on site, and local residents have mentioned hearing fire truck sirens in the area. Witnesses have described the scene, with one individual stating, “It’s in the Jebel Ali industrial area, I can see the building on fire. The last boom, the seventh one, was like 20 minutes ago. Authorities are responding, I heard fire truck sirens.”
Another witness reported hearing ‘at least 4-5 blasts’ in the Jebel Ali region, with the sounds reaching as far as Al Furjan. Images circulating online show smoke spreading across the cityscape, and videos purportedly depict firefighters battling the blaze in the vicinity.
Dubai is a favored destination for British expatriates, with approximately 240,000 British nationals residing in the Emirati city, making the UK the largest European community in the country.
