England’s top supporter, Andy Milne, faced a flood of assistance offers from the United States following his decision to sell his house to finance his World Cup journey, as reported by the Mirror. However, a compelling offer came his way – complimentary hotel stays before and after England’s matches throughout the tournament. Andy, a retired teacher aged 63, is poised to gain recognition on both sides of the Atlantic once the World Cup commences on June 11.
Set to feature in a promotional campaign for the Hilton hotel chain alongside England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, ex-footballer Ray Parlour, and Lioness Legend Jill Scott, Andy will lodge with his close friend in hotels near match venues across the US. Millions of viewers will witness him in TV commercials sporting the beer-resistant ‘Three Lidls’ shirt.
To fund his trip, Andy listed his second home in Northwich, Cheshire, for £350,000. The estimated expenses for hotel accommodations amount to £35,000 for him and his companion, covering England’s two upcoming friendlies in Florida and the entire 39-day World Cup event.
The Hilton’s generosity has spared Andy significant costs. In the wake of the Mirror’s coverage, he garnered offers from prominent brands like Sports Direct, Lidl, as well as various establishments in the US, including a cryptocurrency firm and a casino.
Nicknamed ‘World Cup Guy’ after being spotted carrying a replica trophy in Qatar, Andy expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received, particularly from Dallas residents who extended accommodation and dining offers. Following contact from Hilton, Andy is now slated to stay in their US hotels and feature in a television advertisement.
Post-tournament, Andy, soon to be a grandfather, plans to visit his daughter and expectant mother Laila in Australia with his spouse, Achla, 63. Should England emerge victorious, he intends to update his recently published memoir ‘World Cup Guy’ to encompass this pinnacle achievement.
Andy gained recognition during the Qatar tournament for his celebratory display with a replica Jules Rimet trophy after England’s triumph over Senegal. The image of his jubilation went viral, earning him admirers worldwide.
Stijn Bastiaens, Hilton’s Vice President of Marketing and Loyalty for EMEA, emphasized the significance of providing Andy with top-notch hotel accommodations as a gesture of support for his unwavering dedication to the England team. Hilton’s initiative ensures Andy is well-prepared for his 10th World Cup experience, and he is set to star alongside his idols in the hotel chain’s upcoming campaign.
Please note that Andy’s book, ‘That World Cup Guy,’ is currently available for purchase.
