EasyJet travelers with upcoming plans should stay vigilant for any sudden changes due to a strike in a popular holiday spot. Passengers heading to or from Italy on Sunday, July 5, may encounter delays and flight cancellations.
Travel specialist Kate Donnelly advised individuals flying to or from the European destination with EasyJet to closely monitor their communication channels as the situation could evolve rapidly. The airline staff are set to strike this weekend, starting on July 5.
The strike in Italy involving air traffic control and ground handling personnel is expected to affect EasyJet’s operations on Sunday, July 5, leading to disruptions lasting for the entire day. The Strike Tracker website indicates that the issue will persist until midnight, with services anticipated to return to normal on Monday, July 6.
According to reports, EasyJet pilots and flight attendants in Italy will participate in a 24-hour national strike on July 5, organized by several unions. Flights to and from Italian airports might be impacted, and travelers are urged to check their flight status with the airline.
Kate highlighted that this strike is specific to EasyJet, affecting all flights booked with the airline regardless of the departure or arrival airport. She emphasized the possibility of delays and a higher chance of flight cancellations.
In the event of EasyJet rescheduling flights due to their Italian staff strikes, passengers are entitled to compensation under the law. However, if the rescheduling is attributed to extraordinary circumstances like Air Traffic Control issues, no additional compensation is provided.
Even when the airline is not at fault, EasyJet is obligated to provide assistance in case of flight disruptions, including accommodation and meals. Passengers can claim compensation or expenses by submitting a claim through the official EasyJet Compensation Claims Portal with their booking reference and flight details.
