An alleged drone sighting near the runways has led to the closure of a significant European airport.
Munich Airport is currently shut down, with all flights grounded as per local reports from Germany. The airport’s operations on both runways have been suspended due to the presence of a suspected drone.
Federal Police have been deployed to the scene following the reported sighting of a potential unauthorized flying object.
The airport came to a standstill at approximately 9 am after receiving reports of a “suspicious observation,” leading to a complete halt in flight operations.
At around 10:05 am, BILD reported that the all-clear was given following a search by the Federal Police, which found no concerning objects.
Passengers aboard a plane were informed of the sudden airport closure before takeoff. The closure was announced, and it was indicated that the airport would remain shut until at least 10 am, with a helicopter dispatched to locate the drone.
Multiple police officers are actively searching the airport premises for any evidence related to the suspected drone, with the assistance of a deployed helicopter, according to reports from BILD.
All flights from the airport have been temporarily suspended due to the incident, confirmed by a Munich Federal Police spokesman, Stefan Bayer. The closure was initiated after pilots reported a suspicious observation around 9 am, identifying a possible unauthorized flying object near the airport, potentially a drone.
