Dolly Parton’s journey from humble beginnings to stardom has inspired her music, a theme park, a podcast, and now a Broadway-bound musical. Titled “Dolly: A True Original Musical,” the production aims to showcase Dolly’s life story in her own words and through the songs that have shaped her experiences.
In a video announcement, the 80-year-old singer assured viewers that the musical will truthfully depict her life’s ups and downs, emphasizing her roots, losses, loves, and personal growth. The show will feature a mix of new songs created for the production and some of Dolly’s most iconic hits like “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “9 to 5.”
Scheduled to kick off on December 7 in New York City, the performances are slated to run until November 21, 2027. Parton expressed her excitement, describing the musical as a realization of her dreams. With a music career spanning nearly seven decades, she has penned over 3,000 songs, sold over 100 million albums globally, and earned inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame.
The musical had its debut in Nashville last summer, drawing sold-out crowds during its six-week stint at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. Director Bartlett Sher praised the profound connection audiences have with Dolly, noting how she has inspired and brought joy to countless fans. The production aims to offer an unfiltered look into Dolly’s life beyond the glitz and glam, delving into the depths of her experiences.
Tickets for the Broadway show will be available for purchase to the general public starting Friday, July 10.
