“Denmark Outlasts Canada 4-3 in Women’s Soccer Thriller”

Olivia Holdt netted two goals and provided an assist to propel Denmark to a 4-3 triumph over Canada in a women’s international soccer friendly held at BMO Field in Toronto. Pernille Harder and Janni Thomsen also found the back of the net for the visiting team, who surged ahead with three goals in a rapid nine-minute burst during the first half.

Meanwhile, Olivia Smith, Evelyne Viens, and Delaney Pridham scored for Canada in front of a crowd of 12,112 spectators on a sunny afternoon at the lakefront stadium. Following a 1-1 draw in their previous matchup in Montreal, Canada opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation, while Denmark lined up in a 3-4-3 formation. Kailen Sheridan guarded the net for Canada, with Jessie Fleming donning the captain’s armband.

The opening goal came in the 10th minute as Pridham capitalized on a well-placed header by Kaylee Hunter. Despite Canada’s efforts, Denmark took control with a scoring spree, benefitting from defensive lapses on Canada’s part. Holdt capitalized on a loose ball, Harder seized a turnover, and Thomsen added to the lead with a composed finish.

Smith managed to reduce the deficit for Canada with a well-worked goal, but Thomsen extended Denmark’s advantage with another clinical strike. The match saw Smith and Holdt score again, with Canada ultimately falling short against Denmark.

The friendly matches served as preparation for Canada’s upcoming CONCACAF W Championship campaign, where they are set to face Panama. The tournament serves as a qualifier for both the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Denmark, having already secured their spot in the World Cup, showcased their strength against Canada, leaving the hosts with a 3-4-1 record in their all-time meetings.
