“Conservative MP Raises Concerns Over Party’s Direction”

Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) Jamil Jivani recently expressed concerns about the lack of an alternative to the Liberal government. This comes as his party leader, Pierre Poilievre, commenced a tour in the United States advocating for tariff-free trade.

In a video shared on social media, Jivani emphasized the need for the Conservative Party to present a viable alternative in Ottawa, stressing the importance of fostering a better relationship with the United States, avoiding economic crises, investing in infrastructure, and bolstering the economy.

Jivani criticized the Liberal government for using tensions with the U.S. to deflect public scrutiny, accused the media of labeling critics of Liberal policies as “traitors,” and condemned the government’s intentions to deepen ties with China.

Although not directly targeting Poilievre, Jivani’s remarks prompted former Conservative cabinet minister Jason Kenney to rebuke the MP for not aligning with the party leader’s efforts. Kenney commended Poilievre for advocating for Canadian interests and free trade, contrasting Jivani’s stance.

Poilievre initiated a two-day U.S. tour, highlighting Canadian concerns over the Trump administration’s actions and emphasizing the importance of a strong Canada-U.S. relationship to counter shared strategic challenges, such as China.

The Conservative leader has been vocal about the need for transparency on trade issues, urging the government to disclose details of rejected trade agreements, recall Parliament, and provide cost analyses of counter-tariffs. Despite the tensions, Poilievre refrained from criticizing Prime Minister Mark Carney while emphasizing national interests.

Jivani’s association with U.S. Vice-President JD Vance and his remarks on Canada-U.S. relations have sparked debates within the Conservative Party. Poilievre distanced himself from Jivani’s statements, emphasizing the party’s broader stance on trade matters.

As discussions on tariffs and trade policies intensify, internal disagreements within the Conservative Party have come to light. Jivani’s views on counter-tariffs and his relationship with U.S. officials have stirred controversy within the party, reflecting broader debates on Canadian trade strategies.
