Charges Dropped in Eight-Year Hit-and-Run Case

Charges have been dropped against two individuals who were arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred near Terrace in northwest British Columbia eight years ago. Cameron Kerr, aged 30, tragically lost his life after being struck by a Ford F-350 pickup truck on Highway 16, located west of Terrace, during the early hours of November 18, 2018.

Reportedly, Kerr’s body was hit and subsequently found in a ditch by a passerby, as stated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Taylor Stogryn and Conrad Wierzbicki, both from Surrey, British Columbia, were previously facing charges of disrespecting human remains and impeding justice. Additionally, Stogryn was accused of failing to stop at the accident scene.

The trial for the accused, Stogryn and Wierzbicki, was scheduled to commence on November 2. However, the British Columbia Prosecution Service has decided to drop the charges citing a significant change in circumstances that no longer met the standard for charging assessment.

Garrett Kerr, the older brother of Cameron, expressed deep disappointment upon receiving this unexpected news so close to the trial date. He mentioned that during a recent meeting with the RCMP and the Crown, they were informed that the forensic pathologist’s testimony might not lead to a conviction concerning the interference with the body, a revelation that was surprising and disheartening for the family.

Described as a dedicated sheet metal worker actively involved in Terrace’s hockey and kayaking communities, Kerr was remembered by loved ones for his sharp wit and his tendency to stand up for others. His family plans to honor his memory by emulating his compassionate and hard-working character, demonstrating the impact he made on the community over the past eight years. Kerr’s brother emphasized that Cameron was known for his selfless and brave nature, always willing to help those in need, even if he did not know them personally.

The family intends to carry on Kerr’s legacy by embodying his values of kindness and courage, reflecting the profound impact he had on those around him.
