“Canadian Missing in Nepal Floods Found Safe”

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand has confirmed that one of the 30 Canadian citizens and permanent residents who were reported missing following the devastating flooding in Nepal’s border area with China has been located safe. The individual had been out of reach due to communication disruptions but managed to establish contact on Tuesday.

The flash floods occurred a week ago when a glacier collapsed in the Himalayan border region shared by Nepal and China. The aftermath of the disaster has been severe, with over 1,100 fatalities and more than 3,900 people still unaccounted for. Nepal’s Foreign Ministry has identified approximately 590 foreign nationals from 39 different countries who are missing.

In response to the crisis, Canada is mobilizing assistance by dispatching over 18,000 emergency supplies from Canadian Red Cross reserves to the affected region. This additional aid complements the $5 million humanitarian support already committed by the Canadian government.

The situation remains critical as recovery efforts continue in the wake of the catastrophic flooding.
