A man from the UK has tragically passed away in a paragliding incident in northeastern Spain. The 63-year-old lost his life after becoming entangled in power lines at approximately 1:20 pm local time yesterday.
Emergency services, including firefighters and paramedics, swiftly responded to the scene to provide assistance. Despite their efforts, the man had sustained critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the location.
The incident occurred near Palau de Noguera, a quaint historic village near Tremp in the province of Lleida, Catalonia. It remains unclear whether the individual was a resident of Spain or was paragliding while on vacation.
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the accident, with initial indications suggesting that the man’s death was accidental. This tragedy follows another paragliding fatality in the same province a few weeks prior.
A spokesperson for the regional Generalitat government commented on the incident, stating that firefighters were alerted to the paragliding accident in the Palau de Noguera area. Despite immediate response and medical attention, the British national sadly succumbed to his injuries.
In a separate incident in July 2023, a British man lost his life in a paragliding accident in Portugal. Following a report of a paraglider crash near a scenic spot north of Lisbon, a search operation was launched. The victim was found in a challenging-to-reach area and, despite medical assistance, passed away on-site.
The accident occurred in Vale Bom, located in the Cadaval municipality near the Montejunto Mountains, an hour north of Lisbon. This region is renowned for its natural beauty, including windmills, tranquil villages, and a prominent wine-growing area.
