The family of a young boy, who was thrown off a viewing platform at the Tate Modern art gallery, shared that he has been discharged from the hospital with a renewed sense of joy on his face. The incident, which occurred almost seven years ago, left the French child, then six years old, critically injured after being attacked by Jonty Bravery, a teenager at the time, at the London gallery on August 4, 2019.
Despite surviving a 100-foot fall, the boy sustained life-altering injuries, including a brain hemorrhage and multiple fractures, while on vacation with his parents. Referred to affectionately as “notre petit chevalier” – our little knight – by his family, he recently returned to school briefly before the summer break.
In an update on their GoFundMe page, his family expressed their happiness as he was finally discharged from the hospital to minimize his distress and longing to rejoin his classmates. They shared that his return to school before the holidays brought back his smile, as the tailored lessons and support helped him engage in learning again.
The boy’s recovery journey, marked by setbacks and progress, was supported by a GoFundMe campaign initiated by Vicky Diplacto, a nurse from Surrey. The crowdfunding effort aimed to cover the child’s medical expenses and has raised over £500,000 to date.
Currently undergoing intensive rehabilitation involving physiotherapy, speech therapy, and neuropsychology sessions, the boy is being treated by his family to celebratory activities like a tandem paragliding experience and a seaside retreat with friends. He is also set to resume adaptive swimming lessons and receive additional academic support to bridge the gap in his education.
Looking ahead, his family plans to make the most of the upcoming summer to recharge and establish a normal routine before the school year commences. Meanwhile, Bravery, now 24, who perpetrated the attack and received a 15-year minimum prison sentence for attempted murder, faced further legal consequences for assaulting nurses at a psychiatric hospital in 2024.
