Arthur Fery Advances to Wimbledon Third Round

Arthur Fery stands as the lone British singles contender at Wimbledon, gearing up to clash with Belgian top seed Zizou Bergs in the third round at SW19 while following in the footsteps of his former pro mother.

This year at the All England Club, local favorites have faced tough luck, leaving only one representative in the men’s singles competition as we approach the third round. Fery, hailing from a neighborhood near Wimbledon’s renowned grass courts, is proudly shouldering the national flag in the tournament.

The 23-year-old triumphed over Damir Dzumhur in the initial round in a four-set showdown and staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Otto Virtanen in the second round with a scoreline of 5–7, 7–6(3), 6–3, 6–3 on Court 18. Returning to the same court on Saturday afternoon, he is set to face Bergs, charting new territory in a Grand Slam event.

In his debut Major last-32 appearance, Fery will receive cheers from his parents. Delving into his family background, including his father, a football club president, and his mother, a former professional player who later served at the LTA, Mirror Sport explores his personal connections.

Maintaining strong ties to the football realm through his father Loic Fery, the ex-owner of Ligue 1 outfit Lorient, Fery shares the same league as Nice, owned by Manchester United minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

In January 2026, Loic divested his remaining shares in the club to American businessman Bill Foley’s company, Black Knight Football Club (BKFC), making it the sole stakeholder of FC Lorient, with Loic retaining his position as the club president.

Reflecting on his journey into ownership, Loic, with an estimated net worth of £275 million, mentioned in 2021, “I learned from Ellis, seeing everything that he went through with Sunderland and those misadventures. His son played some tennis with Arthur, so I got to know him.”

“Though not reaching the level of my wife or Arthur, I grew up playing tennis competitively until I was 16. Football has always been a passion of mine,” he added.

“I considered investing in Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United, even visiting the sites, but I found Lorient more promising for business development, and it has proven to be a successful venture,” Loic continued. “When I took over the club, it was financially distressed with negative equity, but we have managed to stabilize the finances over the past 11 seasons.”

On another front, Arthur’s mother Olivia had a successful tennis career, clinching two singles titles and concluding with a 33-25 singles record before retiring. She also participated in the 1991 French Open and later worked for the LTA.
