“Armed Police Respond to Firearm Threat in Teignmouth”

Armed police were dispatched to Teignmouth, a coastal town, over the weekend in response to reports of firearm-related threats. Concerns arose on social media after individuals claimed to have spotted a person with a gun near Back Beach on Saturday night, leading to a swift reaction from Devon and Cornwall Police.

The police were alerted at 8.55 pm following an assault report on Queen Street close to the town center. Authorities confirmed the seizure of a “non-viable firearm” without disclosing further details. A man in his 60s was apprehended by a police armed response unit on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, and possession of a fake firearm. He has since been released on police bail.

The victim of the assault sustained a facial injury, according to the police. Witnesses observed a significant law enforcement presence near the Ship Inn pub on Queen Street, noting road closures in the vicinity.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson stated, “We received a call at 8.55 pm on Saturday, May 30 regarding an assault on Queen Street, Teignmouth. It was reported that a firearm was involved, and threats were made. Armed officers intervened, apprehending a man in his 60s on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, affray, and possession of a fake firearm. He has been released on police bail. A non-viable firearm was recovered at the scene.”
