Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream are halfway through their quest to secure the franchise’s first WNBA championship. Despite knowing that there is more work ahead, the team finds encouragement in the massive support from Atlanta fans and Reese’s exceptional performances in the last two games. This newfound success is particularly significant for a team that had never won a WNBA Finals game until this series.
In their recent game, Reese’s impressive display of 21 points and 12 rebounds propelled the Dream to a commanding 97-71 victory over the Golden State Valkyries, giving them a 2-1 series lead. Following her outstanding performance in Game 2 with 30 points and 16 rebounds, Reese has consistently delivered double-double performances throughout the finals, underscoring her pivotal role in the team’s success.
Reflecting on her contributions, Reese expressed her satisfaction with reaching the finals after putting in hard work during the season and offseason. She emphasized the importance of leading her team to victory and the positive momentum they are carrying into the upcoming game.
Notably, the next game will also take place at State Farm Arena, a change from the original venue at Gateway Center Arena. This adjustment was made to accommodate a larger crowd, as State Farm Arena can accommodate over 17,000 fans compared to Gateway’s 3,500 seating capacity. The enthusiastic support from the crowd has been a significant factor in boosting Atlanta’s performance in the finals.
Atlanta’s dominance in the third quarter has been a recurring theme in the series, outscoring Golden State by a combined 63-35 in the three games so far. With stellar plays and strong team cohesion, the Dream have been able to maintain their lead and capitalize on crucial moments, as highlighted by their recent victory over the Valkyries.
As the series progresses, the Dream’s resilience and determination have been pivotal in securing their position as frontrunners for the WNBA championship. With a sold-out crowd and notable attendees, including music stars and former NBA players, the energy surrounding the team is palpable, setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the finals.
The game witnessed a slow start with Atlanta taking an early lead before Golden State rallied to narrow the gap. However, Atlanta’s consistent 3-point shooting and solid defensive efforts allowed them to maintain control and secure a crucial win, further solidifying their quest for the championship title.
