Policy Options and the Ottawa Citizen both confirmed the removal of pieces written by Robson, citing inability to verify his identity or the accuracy of the provided biographical information. The uncertainty surrounding Robson’s persona arose after an editor at Turkiye Today raised concerns following Robson’s submission of a story involving a supposed drug plot in Turkey and Canada.
Les Perreaux, editor in chief of Policy Options, disclosed that the magazine had published an article by Robson last year, where he presented himself as an independent Canadian journalist. However, subsequent investigations raised doubts about Robson’s legitimacy, prompting a deeper examination of his background. Nicole Feriancek, editor in chief of the Ottawa Citizen, highlighted that Robson, who claimed expertise in extremism, terrorism, and crime, exhibited characteristics suggesting an AI-generated persona.
Robson’s articles, mainly focusing on Canadian domestic issues like hate-crime legislation and national security, were featured on platforms such as the Hub, Open Canada, and Western Standard before being taken down. The Montreal Gazette also retracted a piece attributed to Robson following the emergence of identity verification concerns. Turkiye Today’s managing editor, Ilker Sezer, speculated a possible link between Robson and Morocco, emphasizing the need for vigilance in the face of AI’s expanding influence in journalism.
