The individual accused of plotting the February mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, in the United States has pleaded not guilty in a Seattle court. James Cody Bryant, also known as Melody and using she/her pronouns as per her lawyers, made her appearance at an arraignment hearing dressed in an olive green prison uniform. Bryant, 30, was accompanied by a U.S. court marshal, acknowledging friends in the audience with a smile and nod.
During the court session, Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Greenberg presented the charge, to which Bryant remained silent while her attorney entered a plea of “not guilty” on her behalf. Bryant faces a charge of conspiracy to commit murder in a foreign country, carrying a potential life imprisonment sentence and a fine of $250,000. Following her indictment by a grand jury last week, Bryant’s trial is set to commence on December 21.
