Memories of the Toronto Raptors’ championship victory remain vivid for fans, each with their unique recollections. For Sheena Lalani-Jennings, the day of June 13, 2019, when the Raptors triumphed over the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, holds a special place in her heart. Lalani-Jennings fondly recalls being in downtown Kitchener at the square right after tying the knot at Guelph City Hall.
Following their wedding ceremony, she and her spouse caught the thrilling final six minutes of the game at their downtown hotel before joining the jubilant street celebrations.
Recalling the moment, Lalani-Jennings said, “I was in a white jumpsuit, and my husband was almost in a full tuxedo. It felt like stepping into a grand wedding reception.”
As the new Toronto Raptors season kicks off, Lalani-Jennings and her husband Ross, like thousands of other fans, are filled with a mix of nostalgia and hope, largely due to the return of star player Kawhi Leonard.
Optimism for the Team’s Prospects This Season
Leonard’s previous tenure with the Raptors culminated in the team’s inaugural championship, sparking Raptors fever nationwide with a victory parade that drew an estimated 1 million people downtown and inspired various tributes through T-shirts, murals, and tattoos.
Expressing excitement for the upcoming season with Leonard back, Lalani-Jennings said, “We’re eager to see what this season holds. Our hopes are high.”
Leonard recently penned a two-year, $115 million US contract extension, committing to the team for the next three seasons.
In the preseason, Leonard received a warm reception from fans as he contributed to the Raptors’ victory over the New York Knicks.
“The Raptors have a strong chance,” remarked Ottawa supporter Trey Morgan. “Kawhi excels defensively and as a teammate. He gets the job done.”
