NFL Backs Eagles’ Handling of Jalen Hurts’s Blood Clots

The NFL strongly supported the Philadelphia Eagles’ management of quarterback Jalen Hurts’s blood clots on Tuesday, with the players’ union later calling for an inquiry into the matter.

A source confirmed that the Eagles would not face punishment for their handling of Hurts. The NFL’s chief medical officer, Dr. Allen Sills, defended the Eagles’ actions, emphasizing their cautious and patient-centered approach in dealing with Hurts’s condition.

The NFL Players Association stated that the league had indicated no plans for a review and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to ensure the highest level of care for players in the future.

Hurts, currently on injured reserve, is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a blood clot in his left calf that traveled to his lungs. NFL executive vice president Jeff Miller refuted reports of Hurts going without sleep before playing, stating that Hurts had adequate rest before the game.

Dr. Caron Rockman, a veteran vascular surgeon, commended the Eagles for their handling of a complex issue and emphasized the individualized nature of such medical decisions. Hurts’s treatment will involve blood thinners, and he will be sidelined from football activities until cleared.

Sills underscored that medical considerations always take precedence over sports-related decisions, emphasizing the caution and care exercised in Hurts’s case.
