The Ottawa Senators have announced a contract extension for head coach Travis Green that will keep him with the team until the end of the 2030-31 season. This decision was confirmed by General Manager and President of Hockey Operations, Steve Staios, on Monday.
In addition to Green, assistant coaches Nolan Baumgartner, Ben Sexton, and Mike Yeo have also received contract extensions for multiple years. While the team did not disclose specific details, they emphasized their commitment to the coaching staff.
Travis Green brings a wealth of experience to the Senators, having previously served as head coach for the Vancouver Canucks and the New Jersey Devils on an interim basis. With a background in both minor and junior leagues, Green also boasts nearly 1,000 games of NHL experience as a player during the 1990s and 2000s.
At 55 years old, hailing from British Columbia, Green is currently in his third season as the head coach of the Ottawa Senators. Under his leadership, the team has successfully reached the playoffs in each of his first two seasons at the helm.
Steve Staios expressed his confidence in Green’s coaching abilities, citing their shared vision and philosophy as key factors in the team’s decision to extend the coaching staff’s contracts. Staios emphasized their mutual commitment to building on the team’s progress moving forward.
