“Canada Issues Travel Advisory for Saudi Arabia”

Global Affairs Canada has released a travel advisory advising against visiting Saudi Arabia and specific airports that have been targeted during the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The advisory, issued by the Canadian embassy in Saudi Arabia, highlights recent attacks on airports in Riyadh and Dammam, with the Riyadh airport remaining closed.

The recent attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on October 10 has been attributed to a missile strike by the Houthis, an Iran-backed militant group controlling significant parts of Yemen. The advisory suggests that Canadians in the region should consider booking travel through neighboring countries like Bahrain and Qatar and provides information on ground transportation options to these locations.

For Canadians with expiring visitor visas in Saudi Arabia, the advisory recommends arranging departure as soon as possible, cautioning that the embassy will not assist with visa extensions or fines for overstaying. Travelers are urged to monitor their flight status closely due to the potential for disruptions caused by attacks with minimal warning.
