“Canadian Women’s Hockey Team Roster Change Ahead of World Championship”

Veteran forward Sarah Nurse has been replaced by college forward Alexia Aubin in the Canadian women’s hockey team selection camp roster for the upcoming world championship, as announced by Hockey Canada on the first day of camp in Quebec City. The reason for this change was not disclosed by the organization.

Hockey Canada confirmed that Nurse declined the camp invitation in an email statement later in the day. The spokesperson mentioned that despite Nurse being initially invited, she would still be part of the team’s process through the camp, respecting her decision.

From the 42 players invited to the seven-day camp, Canada’s world championship team of 25 players will be selected. Nurse, a three-time Olympian, holds the record for tournament points and assists, contributing to Canada’s gold medal win at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing and multiple world championship victories.

Nurse, who missed a significant portion of the Vancouver Goldeneyes’ first PWHL season due to an arm injury sustained in the season opener, made a remarkable impact by scoring the team’s inaugural goal. In her place, Aubin, a 20-year-old junior at Colgate University from Levis, Que., has been called up. Aubin previously played for Canada’s development team in a summer series against the United States.

The upcoming women’s world championship is scheduled from November 6 to 16 in Esbjerg and Herning, Denmark, with the U.S. aiming to defend their championship title.
