“Parti Québécois Wins Minority, Plans Referendum”

Quebec’s premier-designate and leader of the Parti Québécois, Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, is scheduled to hold a press conference in Quebec City this afternoon following his party’s selection to form a minority government. This marks the first time since 2014 that the sovereignist party has been elected by Quebecers.

St-Pierre Plamondon will address reporters at 2:30 p.m., where he is expected to discuss his plans for the future. He has pledged to organize a referendum during his first term as premier, but intends to wait until the departure of U.S. President Donald Trump from office before proceeding.

After the recent election, the Parti Québécois secured 59 seats, falling five short of a majority government. The Quebec Liberal Party, led by Charles Milliard, will serve as the Official Opposition with 40 seats.
