Prior to this recognition, she shared the top spot with Beyoncé, each boasting 30 VMAs. The newly introduced accolade aims to highlight artists who have elevated music videos through their behind-the-scenes work, pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling.
In her acceptance speech, Swift reminisced about her journey in music videos, spanning two decades and involving the creation of approximately 60 videos, 18 of which she both wrote and directed.
Expressing her gratitude to her fans, Swift emphasized the joy they bring to her career.
The pinnacle of the evening came when Swift clinched the coveted Video of the Year award for her work on The Fate of Ophelia from her album The Life of a Showgirl.
In a touching tribute, Swift dedicated the award to the late Dolly Parton, whom she referred to as the “ultimate showgirl.”
Introducing her latest music video for the song Patient Zero, Swift showcased her directorial skills, starring Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson. The video features Johnson and Swift portraying mirrored images of each other.
Patient Zero also marks Swift’s first single release since tying the knot with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden in July.
The live broadcast of the two-hour show aired on CBS from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
Kicking off the VMAs was Madonna, who performed her 2026 single Bring Your Love alongside collaborator Sabrina Carpenter. The duo later clinched the Best Collaboration award for the track.
