“Toronto Tempo’s Marina Mabrey Out for Season”

The Toronto Tempo team announced on Wednesday that Marina Mabrey, a standout guard, will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2026 WNBA season due to a right adductor injury. Mabrey is anticipated to fully recover without requiring surgical intervention.

This development was anticipated as Mabrey has been out of play since scoring 22 points in a game against the Indiana Fever on August 18. With the Tempo already out of playoff contention and only four games left in the season, the timing of Mabrey’s absence was not unexpected.

Throughout the season, Mabrey showcased an impressive performance averaging 20.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 0.9 steals in 32 games, earning her a spot as a first-time league all-star.

A notable highlight of Mabrey’s season was when she achieved a career-high of 53 points in a game against Los Angeles on June 25, equaling the WNBA single-game scoring record. The Tempo had drafted Mabrey as the sixth overall pick during the 2026 WNBA expansion draft, and she had signed a lucrative two-year, $2.4 million US contract before the season commenced.

As the Toronto team concludes its inaugural WNBA regular season, their upcoming home games will be against the Indiana Fever on Friday and the New York Liberty on Sunday.
